Young on Saturday’s bout against Amoako: “This is my coming out party, I’m putting rest of division on notice”

Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) – Welterweight Anthony “Juice” Young will be back in action when he steps into the ring against late replacement Samuel Amoako Saturday night at The Claridge Hotel in Atlantic City.

Young (15-2, 6KO’s) will be looking to make it five straight since suffering a TKO setback to Skender Halili over a year ago.

“I’m just blessed to be able to fight in Atlantic City for the ninth time in my career, so that’s always a plus fighting in my backyard,” Young told JMB Friday.

In his last bout, Young was dominating James Robinson until the final moments of the final round, when he was knocked down, but he was able to get up and survive the round and notch the win.

“I had a great six week training camp with my trainers Reggie Lloyd and Adam Zayas. My head trainer Chino Rivas was in Puerto Rico with WBA 130lb. champ Jason Sosa preparing him for his fight April 8th, on HBO against Vasyl Lomachenko.”

Amoako (21-13, 14KO’s), who turned pro back in 2005, is coming off a four-round unanimous decision loss to Sam Teah back in August in Bristol, PA. He has dropped nine straight – with just one coming by way of KO – over that span, but this is not considered a major step up for Young, who will be looking to make a statement regardless.

“I do not know much about my opponent,” Young added. “I see he’s moving up in weight and coming in as a last minute replacement and he is a 30-plus fight veteran and he is very durable. So I plan Saturday to go out and stick to my game plan and be myself and everything will fall into place. I am 17 fights into my career and this will be my coming out party, I’m putting the division on notice that I’m a real player at 140 or 147lbs.”

In six-round affairs, Dan Pasciolla (8-2) of Brick, NJ will take on LeMarcus Tucker (4-1,2 KO’s) of Forrest City, Arkansas in a heavyweight contest, while hard-hitting Gabriel Pham (7-1, 3 KO’s) of Atlantic City, NJ takes on Chauncey Fields (4-1, 2 KO’s) of Lynchburg, VA in a super-middleweight bout.

In four-round bouts, Brendan Barrett (4-0-2, 4 KO’s) of Little Egg Harbor, NJ takes on Brian Donahue (3-13) of Philadelphia in a heavyweight clash

Barrett is not overlooking his opponent, despite Donahue dropping eight out of ten overall

“He’s a seasoned pro, very tough guy, fearless and I know he is always coming to fight,” Barrett said

“I had a great camp, been focusing a lot on strength and conditioning, so I will probably walk into this fight the biggest I’ve ever fought at. I feel very strong, my cardio is great and with Brian’s toughness and brawling nature this has the makings of an explosive fight. Adrian Wilson (0-3) of Atlantic City, will look to claim his first win as a pro, when he tangles with Henry Tyrone Paige (0-3) of Little Rock, Arkansas in a slated four-round welterweight fight

Kevin Asmat (2-1) of North Bergen, NJ will look to make it three straight, when he takes on Edgar Cortes (3-4) of Vineland, NJ in a four-round super featherweight bout, while in lightweight action, Thomas Romain (1-1) of New York will square off with Sidell Blocker (1-6-1) of Pleasantville, NJ in a four-round bout

In a battle of pro debuting welterweights, Cesar Francis of New York meets Steve Moore of Orange, New Jersey in a scheduled four-round tilt.

The show is being promoted by Rising Promotions. Doors open at 6PM and amateur bouts will take place leading up to the pro portion of the card.

  2. Yeah, I do not know if it is AC, the area, or the promotional companies down there, but I would not pay to see this shit. Young is a so-so boxer, and they are filling the card with ammy bouts, so jackass fans think they get their money worth.

  3. I like the kid Asmat and I saw the kid Pham fight down there, he is not bad, solid power, just needs to get some fights. I might check out the card. But AC, really needs to get boxing back down there man, I am not big fan of these pro-am shows, but I understand why they do it.

  4. Wake me and let me know how it turns out. Come on man, you going to pay $55 bucks let alone over $100 bucks for a card that has a late replacement in the main event. Fuck though, that fight will go maybe three or four rounds and if Young can’t get that dude out of there, than he heeds to STFU about talking about cleaning out the division. Fools need to relax first and get some good w’s on their record.

  7. AC sucks, the casinos closing down do not hurt, you have better local shows in Philly now. That’s a fact, they are more competitive and the 2300 Arena is a great venue. I had seen a shit load of fights there, it has that old-school feel, not a bad seat in the house. I rather spend money and travel to that venue then watch these cards down here. I am not hating, just being honest. I live in Mays Landing, huge boxing fan, but have no desire to see this card. These guys are cheating the true boxing fans down here, that is why they do not get taken serious. This card from top to bottom sucks compared to the back to back cards in Philly. Again, just my opinion. Give me Philly over AC any day.

  8. I will say this Q tries to give these guys as much exposure as possible on his site and radio show. He was just talking about the card today. I caught the podcast they do, its pretty good, nice banter, solid guests and set-up. I wish they would talk more about the bigger fights, but I get the whole idea, it is trying to pump up AC boxing, so I commend them for that, but hopefully down road more wide range talk. So many good fights coming up.
