Witherspoon looking to get back on track

Chazz Witherspoon looks to rebound from a TKO loss at the hands of Seth Mitchell, when he takes on Derek Bryant in a slated eight-round affair Saturday night at Resorts Casino in Atlantic City, NJ.

Witherspoon’s last fight was back on April 28th, 2012, against Mitchell on the under card of Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson which aired on HBO.

Mitchell came out and just suffocated Witherspoon with body shots and did most of the damage in round three. With under 35 seconds to go in the round, Witherspoon was caught up against the ropes, and Mitchell was relentless in his attack.

The flurry of punches and damage caused the referee to stop the contest 2:31 of the round.

With the loss Witherspoon fell to 30-3, but he understands that if he wants to get back into the picture of a title shot, he needs to get a win Saturday night against Bryant.

Bryant comes in with a mark of 20-7 and is 10 years older than Witherspoon. He has dropped his last three out of five bouts and also fell to Mitchell.

He is a journeyman fighter who has had some nice wins against Jorge Luis Gonzalez, Taurus Sykes, and Robert Wiggins.

This is a fight that Witherspoon should win, using his reach and his jab.

The question will be what type of shape does he come into this fight. It is his first fight of 2013, and one wanders if there will be any rust to work through.

Also, has he recovered from the beating that Mitchell gave him last year.
