BY: Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) Denzel Stevens scored a second-round TKO over Michael Willis to pull off the upset and advance in the 132lb. open class of the New Jersey Golden Gloves after his win Saturday night at Croydon Hall in Middletown, New Jersey.

Stevens (Unattached) was very impressive and shrug off any talk of being the underdog going into this one. He was more active from the start and really worked in his jab in the opening round. He showed great patience midway through the round and was able to land some sharp crisp punches.

In round two he scored a couple of standing-eights against Willis (Brick City Hitters), who seemed stunned and hurt moments later as Stevens unleashed several straight right hands that snapped the head back of his opponent, promoting the referee to put a halt to the action at 2:24 of the second round.

  1. I always like to see kids that have no gym affiliation move on in tourney, it shows you do not always need to be from a gym to get wins going forward.

    1. Stevens is getting better with every of a kind.will show more improvements as career continues.
