Sheehan picks up win in pro debut

Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) – Six-time Irish amateur national heavyweight champion and standout Con Sheehan had a successful pro debut, dispatching fellow heavyweight Jonathan Rice over four rounds at Club Nokia, in Los Angeles, California as part of PBC’s undercard on Fox Sports 1 Tuesday night.

The 26-year-old Sheehan, who has a tremendous upside, easily dominated the bout. Aside for a clash of heads in the third round, Sheehan, who moved to Oakland, CA, to work with renowned trainer Virgil Hunter, controlled the fight.

The judges saw it 39-37, 40-36, 40-36 for Sheehan (1-0), who afterwards tweeted his feelings on the win.

“Good steady win against a monster and good fighter. Nice to get the ball rolling. Thanks for support,” he tweeted.

The talented boxer is not only athletic but possesses serious punching power, although it was not on display in his first outing.

He captured a gold medal at the European Union Championships.

Rice (2-1-1, 2ko’s) saw his two-fight winning straight snapped.
