BY: Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) The New Jersey Golden Gloves tournament kicks off Saturday at the Christian Brother’s Academy in Lincroft, New Jersey. First bout is slated to start at 7PM, but people are advised to get their early as the venue will fill up quickly.
There are several names to keep a watchful eye out for as the tournament gets underway and according to New Jersey Golden Gloves’ President Dan Doyle, these kids are special.
“We have several returning champions and there are a couple of boxers to really watch going forward. We will run 10 shows this year and had over 300 participates this year. We got three kids in our program right now that we are really excited about,” Doyle said Thursday on Double Jab Radio.
“We have our returning national champion Leory Davila, who is out of New Brunswick. He has been on the USA team for about two years now, we have Michael Hilton, who is our heavyweight out of Trenton and then coming out of the junior program we have Shakur Stevenson out of Newark. Now this kid is something else, you want to talk about catching a glimpse before something happens, this is the kid.”
The tournament will run until April 25th with the finals taking place in Jersey City, New Jersey.
