BY: Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) Kenby Saint Juste had a little more bounce to step and pop behind his punches to advance into the finals of the New Jersey Golden Gloves after defeating Brandon Silvestre during their 165lb sub-novice semifinal bout Saturday at Global Boxing Gym in North Bergen, New Jersey.
With his sold all-around performance, Saint Juste (Adam & Eve) will face another sound boxer in Tauajah Gerald (Howell PAL) in the finals Friday night in Paramus.
The 20-year-old started off strong against Silvestre, almost scoring an early standing-eight in the opening round, when he connected with a flurry of shots up top. Silvestre seemed stunned, and started to back off a bit, but was urged on by his corner to fight forward. The tough young boxer did, and although he got caught several times, he was able to land in some good body shots against Saint Juste.
Midway through the round, the Adam & Eve product started to snap a clean crisp jab that created some distance between himself and Silvestre. His ring generalship the rest of the stanza, earned him the round.
“Coming in here, the game plan was to use the jab tonight, and I am a lot more of an aggressive puncher,” Saint Juste said.
In round two, Saint Juste took over and put the fight away, delivering two standing-eights using a wide array of punches each time. He showed great poise and patience as he picked apart a game Silverstre. Saint Juste would coast the rest of the way.
“I was not at my fullest, but I got the job done,” he added.
