Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) –Efrain Rodriguez scored a brilliant TKO win over Jaison Thompson Friday night at the Monsignor David Cassato and St. Athanasius Church in Brooklyn to advance to the semifinals of the New York Daily News Golden Gloves tournament.

Rodriguez (Atlas Cops N’ Kids) has quickly made a name for himself in the 123lb-pound novice division, and Friday night was no exemption as he delivered the Empire Casino Punch of the Night, thanks to a well-timed gorgeous overhand right that floored the John’s Gym product at 10 seconds of the second round.

“I’m still shocked at the moment,” said Rodriguez, who scored his second TKO win of the tourney. “I am just happy to get through the semifinals and I can’t wait to fight at the Barclays.”

The P.C. Richard Boxer of the Night was 152-pounder Justin Biggs (Judah Bros. BC), who floored opponent Deyshawn Williams (Eastern Queens BC) three times in the first round, en route to the impressive TKO triumph.

The next Golden Gloves event will take place on Wednesday at East River Kiwanis Club-Chian Federation in Astoria (7:30 p.m.).
