Philly amateur standout Rock to turn pro; inks deal with Roc Nation

Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) – Philadelphia amateur heavyweight standout Darmani Rock has announced he will turn pro and after inking a promotional deal with Roc Nation last week. The 19-year-old is an opposing figure at 6″4 and is really broke through during his 2014 amateur campaign, as he won the USA Boxing Junior and Youth Open titles, as well as Youth Continental and Youth World super heavyweight titles.

Rock also took home the Gold medal at the prestigious World Youth Championships in Bulgaria in April of 2014, thanks to a 2-1 decision over Germany’s tough and rugged Peter Kadiru.

He capped off the year by being named Philly’s Amateur Boxer of the Year at the annual Briscoe Awards after claiming the National Golden Gloves title with an impressive win over Cam Awesome, who many consider to be the next Chris Byrd.

Rock ends his amateur career with a staggering 19-5 record in national tournaments.

  1. There you go kiss of death for this kid Roc Nation, why not stay in Philly, do some local shows and get your feet wet then look to the big boys.
