Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) – Although undefeated bantamweight Antonio “Carita” Nieves is set to take on Alejandro Santiago for the WBO/NABO bantamweight title Friday August 19th, at Rhinos Stadium in Rochester, New York, it doesn’t mean the 29-year-old boxer is not eyeing up another fighter down the road.

Nieves (16-0-1, 8KO’s) is coming off a tough but UD victory over Oscar Mojica back in June. He might have won going away on the scorecards, but he knew he was in for a fight against the 23-year-old native of Dallas Texas.

“We did not know what to expect with him (Mojica). I tip my hat off to him, I hit him with some big shots, and he took the shots,” Nieves said last week on Double Jab Radio.

The native of Cleveland, Ohio, will now try to defend his title for the first time in his young career. The title had been stripped from Alexis Santiago in May 2016 for failure to defend his belt. After that, though, he has a pretty good idea of who he would like to face.

  1. Nieves ripped right through Mojica, but lets be honest that was an easy fight for him. He can’t give up rounds like he did against Young in this fight, Santiago is going to be game and ready, prideful boxer.
