Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) JMB has learned on Tuesday that Tori Nelson will now face Kita Watkins instead of originally discussed opponent Melissa St. Vil in the main event of a stacked card for the UBF title Saturday at Martin’s West in Woodlawn, Maryland. The card is being promoted by Shawstyle Promotions and Shabazz Brotherz.
JMB has also learned that the bout will be for the UBF middleweight crown, not welterweight belt.
Nelson (14-0-3, 1ko) was slated to take on St. Vil (6-1-3, 1ko), but according to several people close to Nelson’s camp, St. Vil opted instead to try her hand at BKB where a presumed purse would be higher then the one she would have made fighting Nelson.
Now the 38-year-old Nelson will take on a familiar opponent in Watkins, who she just defeated back in March for the then vacant UBF welterweight title and WIBA welterweight title in dominating fashion over ten rounds.
“This fight will be for the UBF middleweight title, not welterweight title,” said Ponytail Promotions owner James Hogan, who also mangers Nelson.
The 36-year-old Watkins (7-12, 1ko’s) has dropped four straight and the Tyler, Texas native has not won since 2011 when she defeated Tammy Franks.
More details on the card during Wednesday’s edition of Double Jab Radio.
