BY: Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) Jelena Mrdjenovich, the top-rated female featherweight in the world, will look to defend her WBC World female featherweight title when she takes on Columbia’s Francia Elena Bravo in a slated 10-round affair March 27th at the Hotel Sortis, in Panama City, Panama.
The 32-year-old Mrdjenovich (34-9-1, 18ko’s) has reeled off six straight wins, including a dominating 3rd-round TKO performance over Pasa Malagic last December. Since losing the WBC title to Melissa Hernandez in 2012, Mrdjenovich has looked reborn in the ring, easily handling her opponents.
In her winning streak, Mrdjenovich re-captured the WBC title when she stopped Marilyn Hernandez after six rounds in their 10-round contest last September.
The native of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, turned pro in 2003 and racked up nine straight wins before suffering her first pro loss to Layla McCarter in 2005.
Bravo (19-4-2, 3ko’s) is the top-ranked featherweight in Columbia and will enter this contest having won three straight since dropping a 10-round unanimous decision for the interim WBA World female featherweight title June of 2014.
In four career losses, she has been knocked out three times, while Mrdjenovich has knocked out 18 opponents throughout the course of her storied career.
