BY: Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) Well the wait is finally over and to some a fight that should have been years ago is finally set and there is no turning back now.
For more than five years, boxing fans, the media and even fighters themselves were waiting to see when pound-for-pound greats Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao would fight.
Well, Friday everyone got their wish.
After years of back and forth, and failed negotiations, one of the most anticipated fights in boxing history was finalized, as both men have agreed to a May 2nd contest to unify their welterweight world titles at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The announcement was made by Mayweather himself on twitter around 3pm pacific time.
The bout is inevitably going to go down as the richest in boxing history and when it is all said and done it should settle the ongoing debate regarding both fighters.
Who will be dubbed the No.1 fighter and self-proclaimed king of their era.
More to come on Monday’s Double Jab Radio show.
