Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) Vasyl Lomachenko was simply brilliant against upset-minded Jason Sosa, who was unable to execute anything, during their scheduled 12-round WBO 130-pound title affair Saturday night at the MGM National Harbor, in Oxon Hill, MD.
Lomachenko (8-1, 6 KOs) dominated his WBO junior featherweight title defense before Sosa’s own corner wisely stopped the fight after the ninth round, completing a three-fight Ukrainian sweep in front of an electric crowd.
Using precise power and expert footwork, Lomachenko easily dispatched Sosa, who was unable to land anything, and in the process took a huge amount of punishment.,
At one point during the fight, Lomachenko mocked Sosa to the delight of the crowd. In the sixth-round, he landed several body shots that hurt a very game and gritty Sosa. After taking his foot off the gas in the seventh, Lomachenko went back to work in the eighth and really mixed in his jab with more power shots, stunning and frustrating Sosa.
“I came in to do my job and show everyone the ‘Hi Tech’ style,” Lomachenko said, referring to his nickname for technical superiority. “I think I did my job really well.”
At the end of the round, Sosa’s corner told him he had one more round to show them something or they would stop the fight. Despite showing heart and guts, Sosa, who had swelling in both eyes, had no answers for Lomachenko, prompting his corner to step in and stop the fight after the stanza.
Sosa (20-2-4) was a WBA belt holder at 130 pounds, but was forced to vacate to take the once in a lifetime fight against Lomachenko.
Sosa showed heart but that fight should have been stopped around the 6 or the 7th round, it was two rounds to late, no one is beating VL when he is on like that.
Yeah, not sure why his corner let the fight go on, there was no chance in hell that Sosa was going to win let alone land punches. Of course, his promoter is Peltz, who I am sure will drop him now that he lost. Dude is a classless as they come, nothing but making a quick $$$ with this guy.
