Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) – The famed Daily News New York Golden Gloves tournament resumed Wednesday night and the evening saw a spirited back-and-forth 132-pound novice affair between John Gjini against Willie Parker at the Sotomayor Houses Center in the Bronx.

Gjini, who fights out of John’s Gym, showed tremendous pop as well as slick hands en route to a 3-0 win over the New Breed BC product.

The 17-year-old Gjini, moved around well enough to keep Parker at bay.

“I felt great,” Gjini said. “I put in the work, some hard pressure, which was more than he can handle.”

The first round saw Gjini press the action, pushing Parker up against the ropes courtesy of a flurry of body shots. He then landed a gorgeous right hook that produced a legitimate standing eight count.

In the second round, Parker showed heart and resolve as he landed some heavy shots of his own, attempting to turn the tables of the talented Gjini.

However, in the third round, Parker was able to close the bout with a furry as he earned the win.

The P.C. Richards Boxer of the Night went to Antonio German of Atlas Cops N Kids, who defeated Brandon Pena of Willis Ave BC, 3-0.

The tournament continues Thursday night at Yonkers PAL. First bout is slated for 8PM.
