Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) Olivia Gerula will take on Simone Da Silva Durate in a slated 10-round affair that will decide the vacant WIBA Featherweight title Thursday night at the Club Regent Casino & Event Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Gerula (15-14-2, 3ko’s) has not stepped into the ring since winning a very close and controversial eight-round unanimous decision over Kaliesha West. The scoring in the bout was very misleading, and there were several questionable calls in the fight. Gerula appeared to slip less than 30 seconds into the fight when a punch throw by West missed. It was ruled a knockdown.

The rest of the fight was very close, with many having West winning on their scorecards.

Gerula captured the WBC World female super featherweight title in 2009 and defended the belt three times before losing it to Frida Wallberg in 2010.

Before he two-fight winning streak, she lost four straight title bouts, but is still considered one of the best boxers in Canada.

The win against West snapped a four-fight slide, with both boxers coming off long layoffs.

There is no advantage in that regard in this bout because Da Silva Duarte (14-7, 6 ko’s) has not seven months.

The 31-year-old native of Sao Vicente, Sao Paulo, Brazil has dropped three straight, including two title affairs — bouts
