Cruz looking to keep momentum going against Morales

Thursday night Ronald Cruz will be looking to keep the momentum going when he takes on Alberto Morales at the Sands in Bethlehem, PA in a scheduled 10-round affair.

Cruz made quick work of Rodolfo Armenta in August thanks to a second-round TKO. The win improved Cruz’ record to 18-3, 13 Ko’s). However, Cruz is still trying to put behind him the two loses prior to the Armenta win.

Something his manager Jimmy Deoria says he has been able to do. “One thing about Ronald is, he showed a ton of class in those loses, the one against Antwone Smith was very close and he was able to put that behind him,” said Deoria in a phone interview Thursday afternoon.

“I will say this, it is a real honor and pleasure to manager Ronald, the kid is very talented and has been working hard, he understands what is at stake and he has trained hard and is ready.”

Morales has dropped his last two — including a loss to a very good young boxer in Ray Robinson for the interim NABA Welterweight Title in February,

Robinson frustrated Morales all night with the jab, and rest assure Cruz will be looking to do the same thing.

Morales (11-2, 8 Ko’s) was very active at times in that bout and that is also something that Cruz is aware of.

A win can give Cruz the boast he needs going forward. A pro since since 2009, Cruz had been ranked in the Top 15 worldwide by both the IBF and WBC until suffering back-to-back losses to Smith and Ray Narh.

A win Thursday night and Cruz will be back on track.

“He is ready, and he is a very talented boxer, we know what he can do, and other people know what he can do, he is on his way,” added Deoria.
