Anthony Caputo Smith defeated Dhafir Smith in a very controversial decision Friday night to capture the PA State Light Heavyweight Title, but it came with a price.
The decision to everyone at ringside was laughable as the bout was scored 95-95, 96-94, and 96-94. The lopsided scoring was not nearly as bad as the swelling that occurred on Caputo’s eye.
Caputo Smith’s right eye looked like the size of a grapefruit and after the bout mulled retirement because of his new born and he also cited work reasons. The wear and tear of a 50-60 hour work week on top of trying to train might have taken it’s toll on him.
“It was a good fight, he is a heck of a fighter and it was a war, and I think I pulled it out and I hurt him a couple of times,” Caputo Smith said afterwards.
“I have nothing to prove to nobody, I am the one in the ring putting my life on the line, and I love Boxing”.
Smith might want a rematch and once again the hard luck loser falls to 26-24-7 and it is a shame because he won the fight, but then again the judges do not always see it that way.
Friday night proved it once again.
