Breaking: Vincent to defend UBF title against Ruiz

BY: Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) JMB has learned that Shelly “Shelito’s Way” Vincent will defend her UBF World female super bantamweight title against Christina Ruiz in a slated 10-round main event April 3rd, at the Twin River Event Center in Rhode Island.

Vincent (13-0, 1ko) won the vacant UBF super bantamweight belt when she defeated Jackie Trivilino in a very competitive and feisty contest last November. This will be her second 10-round affair of her career and she seems to relish this opportunity.

“I’m working on a lot of new things and this will be my best fight to date, even better then the Trivilino war,” she said exclusively to Journeymen Boxing Friday.

Vincent turned pro in 2012 and is currently the second-ranked super bantamweight in the U.S. and seventh in the world in a very talented and stacked division.

Ruiz (7-7-3, 4ko’s) is coming off two very tough and grueling losses. The 29-year-old native of San Antonio Texas, dropped a 10-round unanimous decision to Tyrieshia Douglas for the vacant WIBA and UBF female bantamweight titles last November. Douglas, who is set to take on Chantel Cordova March 20th for the vacant UBF flyweight title, dominated Ruiz in their bout.

Ruiz suffered a six-round draw against Crystal Hoy last April then followed that up by losing an eight-round UBF female bantamweight eliminator match two months later against Jennifer Han. She has dropped four of her last six bouts.

However, she has fought top-tier opponents throughout the course of her career, including Amanda Serrano, Celina Salazar twice, and Alicia Ashley as well as Kaliesha West.

  1. Hardy would never fight Vincent, but she should be careful bc to be honest Shelly is a tough boxer, but she can be very careless at times. This is a good fight on paper.

  2. No freaking way Hardy beats Shelly. Heather is a just a pretty face in boxing, who the heck has she beat. She is scared of Vincent and we all know that up around here. Shelly would shut her up inside of two rounds, but DiBella protects the heck out of her. Let them fight already!!!

  3. Joe are you kidding me, Vincent will crush Ruiz, yeah Christina has fought tough opponents but that was also earlier on in her career, please stop with the Hardy nonsense as well. She is good, but there is no way she would handle Vincent. DiBella needs to wake up and drop her, it is a joke how they protect her.

  4. Shelly will beat Ruiz easily. Hoy lost to Hardy. And Hardy looked good against Hoy. Shelly never underestimates her opponent and trains relentlessly. My prediction?Shelly wins by TKO.

  5. Way to be on top of female boxing and thanks for posting the stories and giving the girls coverage. Very refreshing, and good to see a real journalist out there doing good!

  6. There is no way Heather would ever fight Vincent, she has been spoon feed opponents, most of the girls fight top level opponents others just avoid them. Look at McMorrow that girl fights anyone, Ava Knight should step up and fight her. Ava is another girl who is more flash than substance, she is more concerned with looking pretty then fighting real opponents.
