Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) – New Jersey’s Jason Sosa pulled off a major upset Thursday night in China when he stopped Javier Fortuna in the 11th round of their slated 12-round WBA Super Featherweight affair in Beiijing.
Sosa (19-1-4, 15ko’s), who was coming off a draw against Nicholas Walters in December, pressured Fortuna in the 11th and was able to walk him down and land a thunderous left hand that dropped Fortuna (29-1-1, 21ko’s).
Clearly on unsteady legs, Fortuna was deemed unfit to continue by referee Raul Caiz Jr, who made the right decision to halt the action.
The 28-year-old Sosa, started his career 4-1-3 but has since turned it around, culminating with Thursday night’s career-defining triumph.
More details to come.
