Bauza defeated Pizarro to claim 141lb to claim Youth Open and Junior Title

Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) – John Bauza scored an impressive win over Branden Pizarro to capture the 2016 Junior Open and Youth National Championship in the 141lb-pound division at the Grand Sierra Resort Summit Pavilion in Reno, NV. There were 34 boxers in four different divisions that claimed national championships in the first event of the year for USA Boxing.

A Ringside BC gym product from North Bergen, NJ, Bauza scored a 3-0 win over the very game and gritty Pizarro (Philadelphia, PA) for both a national title and in the process he took home “Outstanding Youth Male Boxer of the Tournament” award.

Bauza, who is a slick and talented light welterweight, is well know within in the amateur ranks in New Jersey for his speed and power. In this fight, he dominated every round and did not have to leave it up to the judges as he cruised to an easy win and title.

In 2015, Bauza lost a very debated contest to Aadam Ali (Bergen PAL) in the finals of the New Jersey Golden Gloves tournament.
