2nd semi-finals of Washington Golden Gloves in the books

Richard Quiñones (Journeymen Boxing) – The Washington Golden Gloves saw some incredible action, including entertaining bouts in the open division, as the second and final semifinals proved to be well worth the weight over the weekend.

The 141lbs semifinal was an outstanding bout as Tyrek Irby (Headbangers) defeated Brian Avelar (Sugar Ray Leonard) after Irby took control of the final moments in the third round.

Tavon Body, who is an outstanding 165lb boxer, will be looking for his third straight Washington championship.

Here are the rest of the results. Mansabory Conde (Odenton Fitness) captured the 152-pound semifinal with a win over Jonathan Burrs II (Headbangers) In 114lbs. action. Paul Jerry (Fighting For The Future) got past Duglas Soto (Down Under) 132 Pounds: Ebrima Jawara (Laurel) vs. Ulises Castaneda (Dog Pound) 132 Pounds:  Tommy Avelar (Sugar Ray Leonard) over Montel Pridgett (UMAR) 178 Pounds: Genc Pllana (Bowerhouse) over D. Marque Hall (Unattached) 201+ Pounds: Nathaniel Copeland (D-Block) over Timothy Crawford (Sugar Ray Leonard) Hector Soto (Down Under) won his bout in the 123-Pound division by walkover.

In the novice 123lb. division saw Joshua Woodard (Headbangers) over Marlon Cash (Dream Team) 132 Pounds: Ahmad Jones (UMAR) over Micah Johnson (Tony’s Gym) 141 Pounds: Tariq Harris (1st Class) over Sean Cormeir (Kicked Up) 141 Pounds: Leroy Payne (Headbangers) over Donnell Poe (Old School) 165 Pounds: Ashton Sykes (Switch Hitters) over Champ Moultrie (Laurel) 201 Pounds: Jordon Scott (Woodland Tigers) over Alvin Amana (Switch Hitters) Winners by Walkover: Blaze Fidler (Hillcrest) 132 Pounds Mike Crain (Dog Pound)

152 Pounds Antonio Haywood (Hillcrest) 165 Pounds Francis Poulis II (Sugar Ray Leonard) 178 Pounds Thomas Mottinger (Main Street) 201 Pounds The Junior Division wrapped up competition Saturday night with two championship bouts and one win by walkover. 12-13, 92 Pounds: Tyquan Johnson (#11 Overcomers) over Samuel Edmunds (Headbangers) 12, 100 Pounds: Deon Giles (No Xcuse) over Anthony Pullen Davis (Oxon Hill) 14, 113 Pounds: Osei Akinyele (Headbangers) by walkover.
